TOULOUSE- The Airbus A320 has officially overtaken the Boeing 737 as the world’s most delivered commercial jet, marking a major milestone in aviation history. The latest delivery to Saudi Arabia’s flyadeal from Toulouse–Blagnac Airport (TLS) pushed total A320 family deliveries to 12,260 aircraft.
For the first time since 1968, Boeing has been dethroned in the single-aisle market — a space it dominated for over five decades. Airbus now leads the segment that powers most short- and medium-haul flights worldwide.
Airbus Narrowbody Triumphs Over Boeing
Airbus’ A320 family has crossed 12,260 deliveries, edging past the Boeing 737’s 12,259 units. The record-breaking aircraft was an A320neo handed to flyadeal, Saudi Arabia’s low-cost carrier. The achievement reflects Airbus’ decades-long strategy to build a modern, fuel-efficient, and flexible narrowbody lineup, from the A318 to the A321XLR.
The A320’s success story began in 1988 — twenty years after the first Boeing 737 entered service. Despite that head start, Airbus steadily closed the gap through consistent innovation and strong airline partnerships.
The introduction of the A320neo series in 2016, offering significant fuel savings and improved range, accelerated deliveries across global fleets.
While Boeing struggled with safety and certification issues surrounding the 737 MAX program, Airbus capitalized on steady production and growing demand from carriers seeking reliability and lower operating costs. In 2024 alone, Airbus delivered 766 aircraft, more than double Boeing’s 348 deliveries.

Unless Boeing resolves its certification and production issues soon, the A320’s lead may continue for years. Airbus’ order backlog remains strong, fueled by major customers like IndiGo (6E), Wizz Air (W6), and easyJet (U2), all of which are expanding with A320neo family jets.
