EL AL Israel Launches New Flights from Tel Aviv to This Famous US City

TEL AVIV- EL AL Israel Airlines (LY) will start a new nonstop route from Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV) in Tel Aviv to San Francisco International Airport (SFO) on October 25, 2026. The route reconnects Israel with one of the world’s leading technology hubs after a gap of more than six years.

The airline will operate three weekly flights using its Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, with onward connections across North America through its partnership with Delta Air Lines (DL). The new service supports growing demand from the business sector and the large Israeli community in the San Francisco Bay Area.

EL AL Adds Tel Aviv to San Francisco

EL AL will fly the San Francisco route on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Each flight lasts about fifteen hours. The outbound flight from Tel Aviv departs overnight, while the return flight from San Francisco leaves in the afternoon.

The airline assigned flight number LY49 to the outbound service as a tribute to the San Francisco 49ers football team. EL AL operated this route from late 2018 until early 2020, when it suspended service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new launch returns the carrier to a market where United Airlines has indefinitely suspended its own service.

Aircraft, Cabin Classes, and Fares

The route uses EL AL’s Dreamliner aircraft, which offers three cabin classes: Economy, Premium, and Business.

The airline confirmed in April that it plans to buy up to twelve additional long-haul 787 Dreamliners from Boeing to support its growing network.

Ticket sales opened on Monday through the EL AL website and travel agents. Round-trip fares in Classic Economy start at $1,199 and include checked baggage and seat selection.

EL AL Strengthens Its North America Operations

During the upcoming winter season, EL AL will operate forty-five weekly flights to six destinations across the United States.

These include New York through both John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), Miami International Airport (MIA), Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and now San Francisco.

Through its strategic cooperation agreement with Delta Air Lines (DL), EL AL customers can combine nonstop flights with connecting services across North America. Travelers can also earn Matmid points and Diamonds on these combined itineraries.

Part of a Wider Global Expansion

The San Francisco route forms part of a larger growth plan. EL AL has announced eleven new destinations worldwide in recent months across Asia, Europe, South America, and now North America.

The airline describes the move as part of its continued growth strategy and its effort to deepen its global presence.

Shlomi Zafrani, Senior Vice President of Commercial and Sales at EL AL, said San Francisco stands as one of the world’s most important centers for technology, innovation, and business, with a large and influential Israeli community.

He added that the route aims to meet demand from the business sector and the regional Israeli community and to create a more direct and convenient connection between Israel and Silicon Valley.
