Qantas Becomes Top On-Time Airline in the World in 2026

SYDNEY— Qantas Airways (QF) has secured the top position as the world’s most punctual major airline in the latest June 2026 On-Time Performance (OTP) report published by OAG.

The Australian flag carrier achieved the highest operational reliability among airlines operating more than 20,000 flights per month, reinforcing its position as one of the industry’s strongest performers in schedule consistency.

The latest rankings place Qantas ahead of Avianca (AV) and IndiGo (6E), highlighting the carrier’s ability to maintain reliable operations despite managing a large global network.

The strong result also reflects continued improvements across flights operating through Sydney (SYD) and the airline’s broader domestic and international network, where punctuality remains a major competitive advantage for travelers.

Global OTP Rankings for June 2026

OAG’s June 2026 report ranked Qantas first among the world’s major airlines with an on-time performance score of 87.16% across 22,617 scheduled flights. Avianca followed closely in second place at 87.00%, while IndiGo secured third at 86.64%.

SAS Scandinavian Airlines finished fourth after recording an OTP score of 83.65%, while Pegasus Airlines completed the top five at 83.10%.

The remaining positions in the top ten included Azul Airlines, LATAM Airlines Group, Delta Air Lines, China Southern Airlines, and Alaska Airlines, with each airline exceeding the 80% punctuality mark.

The latest achievement continues a consistent trend for Qantas throughout 2026. The airline ranked second globally in April before moving to third place in May, making June its strongest operational performance of the year among major global carriers.

OAG measures on-time performance by counting flights that arrive within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time.

Delays beyond that threshold and cancellations are classified as not on time. Airlines must also provide flight status data covering at least 80% of scheduled operations and operate a minimum of 1,500 monthly flights to qualify for the rankings.

Australasia Performance Across Major Airlines

The June report also highlighted strong performances from several Australasian airlines across different operational categories.

In the large airline category, which includes carriers operating between 10,000 and 20,000 monthly flights, Air New Zealand (NZ) ranked eighth worldwide with an OTP score of 84.42%. Virgin Australia (VA) placed 18th after recording 80.12%, while Jetstar (JQ) finished 24th with 75.86%.

Among airlines operating more than 1,500 monthly flights, Garuda Indonesia (GA) delivered the world’s highest punctuality score at 97.13%.

Fuji Dream Airlines and FlySafair completed the top three in that category, demonstrating exceptional operational reliability despite serving smaller networks.

Cancellation rates also remained relatively low among Australasian carriers. Jetstar posted the region’s lowest cancellation rate at 0.77%, followed by Virgin Australia at 0.96%, Qantas at 1.59%, and Air New Zealand at 3.61%.

Brand Recovery Amid Strong Performance

The latest operational milestone comes during a broader recovery period for Qantas as it continues rebuilding customer confidence and strengthening its global brand.

Earlier this year, Brand Finance ranked Qantas as the world’s 13th most valuable airline brand in its Airlines 50 2026 report.

The carrier’s brand value increased by 24% to approximately US$3.2 billion, marking its highest global position since 2019 and reflecting improving commercial performance.

Despite those gains, domestic public sentiment has remained mixed. Roy Morgan recently listed Qantas among Australia’s most distrusted brands, illustrating that operational excellence alone does not immediately translate into stronger consumer perception.

Even so, consistent punctuality remains one of the most important factors for passengers selecting an airline.

By leading OAG’s June 2026 rankings, Qantas has demonstrated its ability to deliver dependable operations across one of the world’s busiest airline networks while setting the benchmark for major global carriers.
